"Christmas Around the World Knitters Swap Questionnaire" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-13 11:20:40

How long have you been knitting? Would you consider yourself a Beginner. Intermediate or Advanced? My grandmother taught me about 15 years ago but I have only been recently knitting for about a year. I think I'm intermediate. Do you have any other hobbies besides knitting? I have dabbled in crocheting quilting stained glass & love sewing toys dolls & clothes. As far as non crafty things. I love camping & hiking & geocaching with my husband. Also love to read & travel. Favorite color(s)? I feel like I love all colors lately. Just not brown grey black & white. (unless they're mixed with other colors in a variegated skein) Are you allergic to any fibers or animals? I'm allergic to cats but don't seem to be bothered unless I'm around them. I usually don't react to objects that have been in their presence. If not socks then what? (tell us about your favorite knits) I've loved everything I've knit so far including felted things. Scarves hats tank tops socks gnomes dishcloths etc. Do you put up a Christmas tree? If not then what do you do? We usually go out in the woods & find a Charlie Brown tree. Favorite holiday treats? Homemade cookies candies fudge and those mint chocolate covered cherries & store bought chocolates with creamy fruity centers. Favorite holiday smells? Fresh Pine. I love to burn candles that smell like Christmas trees because the tree smell just isn't strong enough! Do you celebrate Christmas in a traditional or unconventional way? Please elaborate. I guess more of the traditional way. My husband & I end up having gifts & a meal by ourselves then one at my Mom's one at my grandparents one at my Dad's & one at my husnbands parents house. We're pretty much worn out by the end of the day! What are your favorite holiday traditions? Opening one gift on Christmas Eve decorating the tree & baking lots of food. If you were a Christmas ornament you would be…….? something small & homemade maybe a mini knit sock or sweater. Definitely not something shiny or large. What was your favorite gift you've ever received? Or given? This is a tough one. I honestly don't know. I always love everything I receive. I made my mom & stepfather a quilt last year that I was pretty proud of.

"Re: Another question about headwear" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-25 01:20:41

I've decided I really don't want to wear a hat this year. Not only does it definitely NOT help me when I'm trying to say my lines in a scene -- it has a tendency of keeping my voice from carrying very well. I am told -- but I'm also bored with it. Therefore. I'm wondering what my options for headwear are. What shapes are period for the time we're portraying and what resources are out there for buying or making hats? Thanks! Awesome!!! Thanks!!! I am not fond of the bonnet and (since I'm in the carolers) it's difficult to hear while singing when wearing a bonnet. Plus. I have a big continue and it's hard to find "over the counter" hats that fit right. Would the "1864's - 1870's LOW CROWN HAT" pass or is that too late in the time period? While only Liz can ultimately say that. I think I can help a little (you get what you're paying for here.)The problem with Hats is that they were for the Dickens' period crowd very trendy very young and very expensive. They were also very Parisan and American. So it can tend to take away from a middle class English look. There are a clump of different shapes for bonnets and no one said you have to feature the Indian Elephant style bonnet that is so popular (since they are made in felt in every color and easy to find.) You can cut back on the brim flatten or expand to suit your head shape and don't forget you can put decoration on the inside as well as the outside. Anyone willing to wear a turbin with a scarf draped over the crown and around the throat? Its a little more 1835-ish but it could work. Do the same with a hat if you want or need to wear it (pending approval by Liz!!!) Its Winter! Just avoid anything that reads: Gibson Girl. Scarlett O'Hara or Flower Pot (a style of the 1880's I come about to like.)Hope this helps. Again - I'm just a loud mouth experience it all - everything depends on what Liz approves. Ciao! Thena - again - that you for fielding this one as well yes I do have the " last word" but I do choose the brains of those who are choosing to specialize in certain areas. While I really do understand about wanting to hear yourself - I feel the same way about french hoods - please remember that we are going for an overall be - that of middle class England - 1840 - 1860. I really can't justify having the whole of fair go to hats instead of bonnets. What I will suggest is that those of you that absolutely can't abide bonnets - email me at costumes@redbarnproductions org with your reasons why your character wouldn't wear a bonnet with a picture or 2 of what you are thinking about and we'll talk. However if I get a lot I'll just undergo to start saying no. BTW gratify bear with me for the next few weeks. I am in the lay of putting Folsom Faire together and will do my very best to respond to you with in 24 hours. However - especially the week of Oct 16 - 23 (when I WILL NOT be returning any emails but those with regards to Folsom) if you don't hear from me with in 48 hours conclude free to email me a second time and post your question on tribe or send a message to me at my tribe spot email has been known to get lost - these machines are not infallible!Looking forward to seeing all of you at workshops - Liz

A real devil but with a great broach of good in him.” Aziraphale chuckled at the disgusted face the boy made. “Crowley—my friend—also isn’t entirely fond of his… er… family and they aren’t fond of him either. comfort he keeps to his own path and has found it pleasurable enough.” Aziraphale closed his eyes and began to hum again. He could still conclude the love of mankind wrapped around him and tenderly directed some of it towards the child sitting next to him. Perhaps a calm reminder of the affection towards his friends would carry him through the cold lonely nights ahead. 1. It was this year that the carol ‘Silent Night’ was first performed in Oberndorf. Austria. Aziraphale has since claimed it inspired hundreds of humans to remember the holier aspects of the holidays and to move an unprecedented amount of goodwill. Crowley claims that it inspired him to sleep until the turn of the next century. 3. Something about the way he said ‘dear boy’ made Sirius delay to appraise his impression of the stranger. The tired grimace reminded him of his sickly roommate Remus—something about an ancient soul that’s been through a lot. This thought was brief and flittered out of his object before he could completely capture it. 4. This is strictly speaking not true. Remus Lupin has only ever called Sirius ‘incorrigible’ and ‘imp’ and each on displace occasions. He in fact likes him because of said traits and has long held the belief that he will die by falling drink stairs. *Flails*:D :D :D Omg. This day started out crap but then it got better and better and exceed and now it has reached EPIC PROPORTIONS OF YAYNESS!!*calms down*This is really wonderful. The dynamic is exactly how I'd picture a meeting between Sirius and Aziraphale. Aziraphale's voice especially comes out loud and clear in this. And the footnotes!!! Joy!convey you! Oh wow it's so great to see populate whom I accept from the R/S fandom show up over here! ;)Wonderful fic - the concept of a young Sirius meeting Aziraphale is just too adorable and I thought you captured both their voices really well. Brilliant footnotes too! I am particularly fond of the idea that an eleven year-old Remus fears death by stairs. Hee. ;D Yes it's always a pleasant affect to see someone in a different fandom! :) Like finding a twenty dollar bill in your winter coat when pulling it out of the closet the first measure of the year er. I really shouldn't write similes off the top of my continue like that. ;)Thank you so much for your comments! I was very pleased with the way Aziraphale turned out esp because I was so nervous about writing him. Can you imagine poor Remus when he first arrived at Hogwarts and saw that there were dozens of staircases and some of them moved? hehe

That is until he spotted the boy sitting on his accustomed remove. The poor child was curled around himself in abject misery completely ignoring the come down falling around him. In fact all he seemed to be wearing was some strange sort of apparel—neatly pressed and obviously expensive but seemingly not thick enough to block out the change taste pass cast down. The angel swiftly took off his own cover and draped it over the child. He received a glare from the boy one that spoke of arrogance suspicion and a hint of mischief. All in all he reminded Aziraphale a bit of Crowley and it was rather unsettling. The look of suspicion slowly faded to grudging gratitude as the boy finally realized how cold he had become. Aziraphale wasn’t sure what Gryffindor was but he was familiar with the desolate mouth of the challenge. “That my dear is surely one of the more ineffable aspects of life.” He offered the boy a sip from a thermos of hot chocolate which may or may not have been on his person at the time he arrived. “Surely there must be some things about school that you desire.” “Well one of my roommates… he’s the greatest friend I could ask for. James always gets my jokes and he’s not afraid to break a few rules.” The boy took a few sips from the thermos and the color began to return to his cheeks. “Remus however says that I’m an incorrigible arrogant imp with a nasty harden and a penchant for ignoring authority figures.
