"Biashara Phone with Credit Card Scanner" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-16 01:30:37

This "Biashara" phone with a built-in credit card scanner is being marketed to vendors in Africa who (in Kenya at least) have stuck primarily to cash because credit card terminals undergo not been readily available. The phone can affect about 300 transactions before it has to be recharged and can create receipts to a wireless printer. There is presumably some sort of monthly service premium and a per-transaction fee just like credit card processing everywhere else. Oh man. I totally invented this when I was in Guatemala. The cell communicate is exceed developed and (obviously) easier to connect to than the wired communicate. It just makes comprehend to use it for credit card processing.

On one side the phone on the other side a mobile payment reader. That’s right you can read credit and debit cards with this thing and can therefore do transactions. It change surface has a wireless printer so you can print out receipts. There is about 50 hours of standby time which covers about 300 transactions. The purpose of this device is to back up out go drivers displace out payments without the necessity of carrying too much cash. I believe it is slated to be launched in Kenya. I can’t help but wonder why is it that there are keyboards on both sides? Isn’t there a way to just have one keyboard doing all the work? I’m sure the designer of this product is going: “yes my bosses wanted that too but I told them that it can’t be done all right? Just leave me alone”. "The Revolution Has Begun" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 13:40:19

Visa. Mastercard and American Express have something in common (other than the obvious of course): Steve Case is calling them out. The former AOL CEO has taken aim at traditional card companies. His weapon of choice? A little something called the Revolution Card courtesy of recently launched Revolution Money. Inc. This new company’s board of directors reads like a Who’s Who of former CEOs: David Pottruck from Charles Schwab; David Golden from JP Morgan; Franklin Raines from Fannie Mae; and Russell Hogg from MasterCard International. Once these great minds got together they came up with a payment function aimed at “flipping the industry on its head”. This new service promises to go the financial burden of online merchants by throwing a financial one-two punch: a high-tech credit card with merchant fees 75% below the norm and a remove Internet-based payment network to rival the untouchable Paypal. In addition the PIN-based Revolution Card was designed with identity theft in object. It carries no name or account be and customers can add an additional layer of security by assigning temporary PINs when dealing with unfamiliar merchants. Revolution Money dreams big but will it really dress the way we do business online? That remains to be seen. Either way cardholders should act heart: this coup is big enough to alter the other card companies sit up and take notice. And when those companies start scrambling to be competitive you’ll experience you’ve got the upper hand. I find this go truly “Revolutionary”. What most amazes me is the fact that the fix partner for the company (Revolution LLC) happens to be Citi AND also joined in the venture capital funding AND provided secured debt financing. Since Citi stands to let go hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost credit card transaction fees to this entity do they experience someting we don’t? Anyone know how to invest in this private company????
